Cullercoats Studios sits on the edge of the contemporary arts scene in the North East of England. It seeks to provide a place where artists work, talk and exhibit along with other local, national and international arts practitioners.
The studios were set up in 2012 to address the lack of exhibition spaces and opportunities for contemporary artists in the region. The building is unique, sited above the Co-operative store and it has, at various times been a theatre, funeral parlour, hairdressing salon and social space. The space was in a derelict state and still retains a raw and elemental beauty. This is no White Cube! It is home to several practicing artists, offering work areas and a space in which to exhibit their own work as well as showing the work of a rapidly growing collective of both local, national and international artists.
Cullercoats Studios maintain a prominent role in the promotion of contemporary fine art in a diverse and increasingly high profile art scene that has recently emerged in Newcastle, UK and with the recent construction of a new gallery space, is committed to keeping its engagement challenging and current.
Cullercoats Studios are located 25 minutes from Newcastle City centre by car or metro and is easily accessible by rail, road and air (direct flights operate daily between London Heathrow). Please click the link to a map below for directions.
